80% of jobs are filled through networking, and DMs on LinkedIn, Twitter (X), and Instagram are powerful if done right.
How to Send a Professional Networking DM
✅ Keep it short & specific – “Hi [Name], I saw your post on [topic] and wanted to connect. I’m transitioning from the military into [industry] and would love any advice.”
✅ Make it about them – Reference a post they shared or something they said.
✅ End with a clear ask – “Would you be open to a quick chat?”
Common DM Mistakes to Avoid
🚫 Being too vague – “Can you help me get a job?”
🚫 Spamming multiple messages if they don’t respond.
🚫 Making it all about you instead of building a relationship.
💡 Pro Tip: Engage with their content before messaging to warm up the connection! (And that doesn't mean just liking every post on their profile 10 minutes before you message them!)
